ONW Now Final
1 in 2000
What the Project Was
For this project I interviewed Sarah Miguel about a fun things she did this summer. For this project it took me about a week and a half to shoot it and edit it completely. Some of the challenges I faced was getting shots of her dog. Since I didn't go over to her house to get video, I asked her to send me pictures. Along the way I learned that sometimes it's better to use photos instead of video. On piece of feedback I was given was that I needed to lower the background noise so it wasn't as prominent. When I e-edited it I turned down the background noise so the listeners weren't fighting to hear the interview. My overall opinion on the project was that I did a good job getting the focal point portrayed.
Time in Class
During class I used my time to get b-roll and edit t make the final product. I stayed productive by rematching what I had and fixing the mistakes that I saw. Outside of class I enhanced this video by collecting the rest of the b-roll of the school.
Strengths
My strengths for this video was using the photo and writing the script. I maximized my strength by choosing the best place to use the photo. I maximized my strength of writing the script by not getting stressed out when I had a hard time writing part of it. I took a step back from it and came back later and made it better.
Improvements
My area of improvement for this project was editing it. I noticed that there was some shaky spots that could have used some of the editing tools to make it smoother. I could also have edited out the ending clip when I was adjusting the camera.
Feature Story #2
What the Project Was
For this project I created a feature story about the graphics team for the 1710 robotics team. I took me about a week to create the final product. Some of the challenges I faced was making sure I got enough video of the students actually working on something. I learned along the way that the robotics team is more than just creating a robot. Some of the feedback I received was that I did a good job with the location for the interviews. I didn't change anything with my video. My overall opinion for this video was that I did a very good job creating it.
Time in Class
In class I used my time to get enough b-roll that it made sense. To stay productive I thought about how I needed to finish it so I could view it so I could fix the changes before I turned it in. Outside of class I enhanced my work by going to 2 of the meetings to get video of what they did and pictures of them working.
Strengths
One of my strengths for this project was my work ethic. For this project I maximized my strength by doing most of my filming outside of class.
Improvement
One thing I could have improved on was getting better lighting for interviews. They were a little washed out so I could have moved them down the hallway a little bit so they weren't right under a light.
ONW Now
What the project was
For this project I helped create an ONW Now episode. It took about 2 weeks to create the final product. Some challenges I faced during this project was finding a news topic to create a video over. Since it is the end of the semester and the school was getting ready for finals there weren't a lot of things going on. Another challenge I faced creating the episode was writing the script for the anchors. The original stories that my episode was going to feature changed the second day so Leah and I had to change our intro and the intros for the stories. Along the way I learned hat it takes a lot of work to create an episode, and that the juniors and seniors are doing a lot of out of class stuff behind the scenes to make it work every week. Since this was the final for the first semester I gave myself some feedback and that I needed to change the intro in the beginning so we introduce the correct stories. When I get back from break I'm going to change the beginning of the script so when we refill it with the audio you will be able to hear the changes. My overall opinion of the video was that it was well written. the scripts were professional and introduced the topics in a non-cheesy way, and that the creators of the stories did a good job making sure that they projected the overall topic in a professional manner.Time in Class
In class I used my time wisely. I completed the interview for my news story, collected some of the b-roll, and edited it. With the time that I had after I finished my news story I looked at old ONW episodes to get inspiration for the script. Based on the information I got from the old episodes, I wrote the script so it was in a similar format. Outside of class I shot some of the b-roll at lunch so we had some shots of people making wishes.
Strengths
Some of my strengths for this video was writing the script and thinking of a topic for my news story. I maximized these strengths by thinking about what the stories in the episode would be about. Another way I maximized them was thinking about what was going on in the school at the time. Since there wasn't a lot of things going on I had to be creative.
Improvement
One thing that needs improvement is my editing skills. I need to spend more time editing my films so the are more polished. Some of the shots I collected and used could have been cut off sooner so there wasn't a mistake.
Summary
This semester I loved the experience I got working with my classmates. I loved how I was able to bounce ideas off of them and we were able to create an entertaining video. I would change the was some of the videos were shot. In some of them it looks like there was part of it cut off, and so I could have repositioned the camera a little bit so it didn't look like there was something missing. My overall take-away from the semester was that I'm able to make videos that entertain people. One goal I'm setting for next semester is that I work o my editing skills more. My final thought is that I did a good job collaborating with my classmates.
